I swung by Milky Lane at Gateway the other day, right in the thick of Umhlanga, and wow—what a mixed bag! This ice cream spot oozes charm since it’s been around since ‘58, but honestly? It’s kinda hit and miss.
Walking in, the vibe felt cozy, but lemme tell ya, the seating’s tight! Not ideal for a good chinwag with friends. They knock out some tasty treats like those scrumptious waffles and a crazy range of ice cream flavors. The NiceCream? Absolute star of the show! I didn’t get a chance to try the shakes, but my mate swore by the chocolate mint one—he was nearly in heaven.
But hey, the service? Yikes. I’ve heard some horror stories. Imagine waiting ages and then getting a snooty reply from staff! I mean, who invited that bad attitude? On the flip side, I did run across some super friendly servers who clearly knew their stuff.
Plus, they’re convenient for takeout if you’re in a hurry. They do a good job with pickups, and, though I didn’t see a delivery option, I reckon you could swing by for a quick treat. If you find yourself wandering around Gateway, definitely pop in—just manage your expectations a little! And, oh, pro tip: they’re cash-only, so come prepared!
